Get Referrals

The people who send you business, the day they get busy. Get Referrals watches your referral sources and tells you when one of them did something that creates work for you, who to approach there, something useful to share first, and a note ready to send.

Where to find it

Open Get Referrals in the sidebar under Outreach.

Early access

Get Referrals is in early access and currently turned on for a small group of firms. If it is not on for you, the page shows an Ask for access note.

Three tabs, each for a different referral source

PE deals

For recruiters and executive search. When a private equity firm buys a company, it usually rebuilds the leadership team over the next year or two. The gift: other acquisitions in the same niche from the last 90 days (M&A comps).

VC rounds

For fractional executives and consultants. A VC firm just backed a Pre-Seed to Series B company. The gift: that firm's portfolio companies that recently posted senior roles in your function.

VC exits

For wealth advisors. A VC-backed company was just acquired, and its founders and early team have new liquidity. Exits are double-checked so a company with the same name is not confused for another. The gift: companies in the same niche that just raised, as deal flow to share.

The What do you do? picker sets your default tab and what the gifts focus on. Choose from Recruiting / exec search, Fractional CFO / finance, Fractional CMO / marketing, Sales / revenue, People / HR, Technology, Operations, Wealth management, or Something else. A fractional CFO, for example, sees finance roles in the gifts.

What is on each card

  1. 1
The deal. Company and firm names link to their Fundz pages, with View the deal and Company profile links and + Add to My Accounts.
  2. 2
Give first. A box with the gift for that tab, something useful to share before you ask for anything.
  3. 3
You know someone at the firm. Your own LinkedIn connections there, from the network you uploaded on My Network. Each has a Follow in Engage button, so their posts and job changes are watched every morning.
  4. 4
Who to approach at the firm. Named partners, with operating and talent partners first.
  5. 5
Find partners at the firm. Every firm also has a LinkedIn search link for its partners.

Draft a note

Draft a note writes a short, friendly note in your voice. It opens with a plain congratulation, shares the gift first, then makes one soft ask with an easy out. It never judges the deal or claims the company is hiring.

Send via HeyReach

Only for people you already know, from your own LinkedIn through HeyReach. It stops when they reply, with one follow-up after 4 days.

Copy & open LinkedIn

For people you don't know yet. The note is sized as a connection note, under 300 characters, to paste and send yourself.

I sent it

Marks it as sent when you reached them another way.
Nothing goes out on its own

Nothing is sent until you press a send button on one person.

Filters and ranking

Three filters narrow the list: US only; Mid-market, which hides deals at companies with 5,000 or more employees or a deal value of $1B or more; and People I know. Cards where you know someone always show, whatever the filters.

Cards where you know nobody are ranked by fit to the targeting on My Market: industry, location and company size, and for the VC tabs, the firm's record in your industries. The 15 best fits show first, with Show all for the rest. Each card says why it fits, under Fits your market.

Track what comes back

The Sent section lists the notes you sent. Mark each one Replied, Meeting booked or Meeting held so you can see which firms send you work.

Upload your network first

Upload your LinkedIn connections on My Network so the cards show who you already know. See My Network for how.
