Crowdfunding: companies raising from the public

Some companies raise money from the public before any venture firm backs them. Crowdfunding shows you those companies the moment they file, with how much they want to raise and by when.

In the US, a company raising from the public has to file its offering with the SEC. Fundz reads those filings: Regulation Crowdfunding offerings ("Reg CF", run through funding portals) and Regulation A offerings ("Reg A", larger raises). Each entry shows the company, the amount it is trying to raise, the deadline and the type of security offered.

Why it matters to you

• Investing: find young companies early, see their terms, and read the filing itself.
• Selling and advisory: a company in the middle of a public raise needs marketing, legal, accounting and investor relations help, and it has a deadline.
• Founders: see which companies like yours are raising this way, and how much they ask for.
• Market research: see which products and sectors are drawing interest from everyday investors.

Find it

In the left menu, open Investors and click Crowdfunding, or go straight to Crowdfunding. If you don't see it, click All tools at the bottom of the menu. Use the tabs at the top to see All offerings, only Reg A, or only Reg CF.

Narrow it down

1. Click Add/Edit filters (on a phone, Filters).
2. Pick Location (US states and cities), Offered Types (the kind of security), Target Offering Amount, Deadline, Time Period and Company size.
3. Click Apply.
4. Fundz asks if you want to save the filter. Click Save + Email Daily to get an email when new offerings match, or Save Only to just keep it.

To change those emails, click Manage Email Summary for These Filters above the list.

Open an offering

• Offering details: the filing type, the target or offering amount, the type of security, the state, and for Reg CF the deadline and the funding portal running the raise.
• Reg A financials: Reg A offerings also show the figures the company reported in its filing.
• The original filing: a link to the filing on the SEC's site.
• Related People: find the founders and decision makers, click Reveal email, and use SmartSend to write to them from your own inbox. SmartSend
• Notes and saving: the Notes box saves as you type and is private to you. Click the heart to keep the offering in Saved Events.

Take the list with you

On Pro and Strategic, Get CSV exports the offerings that match your filters. Exports

Open the company name to see its full company profile, including any rounds it has raised from investors.
