The programme has now secured approximately $1.24 million in NOAA funding to expand its efforts. Eleven new projects across seven states will use the funding to remove another 15,450 traps while creating or sustaining 128 coastal jobs. The work aims to protect marine animals, support fisheries, reduce bycatch, and collect data to prevent fishing gear loss.
