Elorian, a Palo Alto-based AI startup, has released its first AI model called Glimpse as a research preview. The model features a 'visual scratch space' mechanism that allows it to reason about images by examining specific regions, frames, and using code to measure and compare visual content, rather than simply describing images from memory. Elorian's approach differs from typical multimodal models by keeping the source image as a reference during reasoning. The company trained Glimpse on a few hundred GPUs with a small team, creating a substantially smaller model than competing frontier systems.
