QueensLink, a nonprofit advocating for reactivating the abandoned Rockaway Beach Branch rail line in Queens, has secured $500,000 in grants from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the USDOT Reconnecting Communities Program. The funding supports a series of federally funded studies aimed at exploring the project's housing and economic impacts while boosting community engagement. The nonprofit has launched two Requests for Proposals and one Request for Expressions of Interest to deliver findings to elected officials, community stakeholders, developers, and nonprofit organizations. One study, the Regional Economic Input/Output Analysis budgeted at $150,000, will examine capital investment trends and development in the corridor.

About
QueensLink is a nonprofit organization advocating for the reactivation of the abandoned Rockaway Beach Branch rail line in Queens. The organization proposes converting the LIRR corridor, abandoned since 1962, into a subway extension connecting Rego Park to Ozone Park and ultimately linking with the A train to the Rockaways. The project aims to improve north-south transit connections, reduce travel times, create jobs, and promote environmental sustainability. QueensLink has launched federally funded studies to explore the housing and economic impacts of the proposed rail reactivation.
