Dimension Technologies, a University of Bristol spinout, has secured £700,000 in pre-seed funding to develop a novel blood test for detecting and monitoring microvascular disease. The company's technology measures changes in the glycocalyx, a sugar-rich layer coating blood vessel interiors, which can indicate early disease signs. The blood test analyzes glycocalyx signatures on circulating red blood cells, enabling researchers and clinicians to assess microvascular health without specialized imaging or invasive biopsies. Microvascular damage is linked to kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and dementia, conditions that are currently difficult to detect and monitor in clinical practice.
