Uganda has contracted Turkish construction firm Yapi Merkezi to build the first section of its 1,700 km electric rail line. The $3 billion deal will see the construction of a 272 km railway, connecting Uganda's capital, Kampala, to the Kenyan border at Malaba. The project aims to boost regional trade by lowering transport costs and stimulating trade.
