The federal government’s Defence Investment Agency awarded Telesat a new contract valued at $2.3 billion CAD. This contract will strengthen Canada’s military communications capabilities using satellites. Telesat's Lightspeed constellation will expand from 156 to 225 satellites as part of this effort. The contract includes options that could increase its value to $2.7 billion.
