QueensLink, a nonprofit advocating for reactivating the abandoned Rockaway Beach Branch rail line in Queens, has secured $500,000 in grants from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the USDOT Reconnecting Communities Program. The funding supports a series of federally funded studies aimed at exploring the project's housing and economic impacts while boosting community engagement. The nonprofit has launched two Requests for Proposals and one Request for Expressions of Interest to deliver findings to elected officials, community stakeholders, developers, and nonprofit organizations. One study, the Regional Economic Input/Output Analysis budgeted at $150,000, will examine capital investment trends and development in the corridor.
