The Dominican Republic has awarded a contract for the production of five million biometric passports, which will be issued starting in August. The new passports will feature biometric security measures, such as polycarbonate materials and embedded microchips, to comply with international standards, with the supplier bearing the production and investment costs and no expense to the state. Additionally, new online application offices and a remote data capture service for individuals with limited mobility will be enabled soon.
