Aerospace company Rolls-Royce has received a further £2.9m in funding from the UK Space Agency to develop its micro space reactor that could be used by astronauts to power communications and life support on the Moon.

Rolls-Royce will receive £249,000 of the funding to develop its space power station project. “The support of the UK Space Agency has been instrumental in enabling the continued progress of the Rolls-Royce Micro-Reactor development programme,” said Abi Clayton, future programmes director, Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce will use its previous expertise in nuclear to build an autonomous Micro-Reactor.
